Dong-A University's Department of Korean Language and Literature (Dean Heo Jeong) announced on the 11th that it held the '1st Salnae Choi Nak-Bok Scholarship Award Ceremony'.

The Salnae Scholarship was created with 100 million won in department development funds donated by Nak-bok Choi, emeritus professor of Korean literature, in April last year.

Professor Emeritus Choi, Dean Huh, Jeong-ho Um, Park Soo-cheon, Kim Young-sun, Kwon Myeong-ah, Professor Jeongguk-sik (Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences) and scholarship students attended the scholarship award ceremony held at the College of Humanities and Sciences at Seunghak Campus on the 10th.

At the event, students Eunmi Yoo (4th year), Sumin Hwang and Sangyeop Hwang (3rd year), Hyojeong Woo (2nd year), and Sojeong Park (1st year) from the Korean Literature Department received a scholarship of 5 million won each.

At the scholarship award ceremony, Professor Emeritus Choi said, “I am here today because I decided to donate a development fund for future students and put it into action sooner than planned. I hope it will be of some help to the students.”

The scholarship students said, “It is very meaningful to be selected as the first scholarship recipient with the development fund donated by the senior professor of the department. expressed his feelings."

Professor Choi served as the president of the Seokdang Academy at his alma mater, Dong-A University, and nurtured junior students.

In recognition of his contribution to the study of Korean grammar during the enlightenment period by writing 7 books and 50 papers including 『A Study on the Grammar of Ju Ji-gyeong’ for over 30 years, he received the ‘Joo Ju-gyeong Academic Award’ from the Korean Society of Korean Studies in 2016. For his work, he received the Prime Minister's Commendation in commemoration of the 575th Hangeul Day last year.
